Description

Telos IV was a lush system located on the Hydian Way Hyperlane in the Outer Rim Kwymar sector, and acted throughout its long and turbulent history as a pivotal element to the survival of the Republic. The Telosian military and economy were a fundamental part of the Republic, both before its bombardment during the Jedi Civil War, and after the completion of the Restoration project. The planet served as a base for the Agricultural corps, an organization for Jedi who had failed to gain a master in the allotted amount of time, as well as a secret Jedi academy and repository of knowledge and valuable Jedi relics, in response to the potential destruction of the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine during the Jedi Civil War.

Flora and Fauna

Before and after the orbital bombardment and subsequent restoration of Telos IV, the planet’s terrain and ecosystem was lush and beautiful, with verdant fields of tall grasses, shallow crags lined with forest, white-sand beaches surrounding vivid blue oceans, long fields of lavender and blue flowers, deep lakes surrounded by emerald hillsides, and various other forms of natural beauty. The planet’s northern polar region was icy and frigid, with nearly constant snowfall along the steep and towering plateaus and mountainsides.

While little is known of the wildlife present on Telos before the Jedi Civil War, the restoration effort saw the introduction of several kinds of herbivores from Ithor, as well as carnivorous beasts Onderon and Dxun. However, due to political entanglements disallowing the Ithorian restoration effort to continue for several months, the meticulously balanced ecosystem was crippled by the cannocks’ devastating hunger as they wiped out all the herbivores within the restoration zones.

History

Telos had a long age of prosperity before the start of the Jedi Civil War.  The Old Republic stationed a military base present and the Jedi used the planet as the headquarters for its Agricultural Corps. The Jedi also established a secret Jedi Enclave in Telos’ abandoned polar-irrigation facility in the north pole.  Once the JCW began, Telos was one of the first planets hit.

The Sith Lords Revan and Malak returned to the galaxy and initiated the Jedi Civil War.  Admiral Saul Karath, once a Republic Admiral, retrieved the docking codes for the docking station on Telos.  In a display of loyalty for his Sith Masters, he destroyed the docked Republic warships.  Malak, without the approval of his Master Revan, ordered Karath to destroy the planet in a planetwide bombardment.  As a reward, Karath was made the Supreme Commander of the Sith Forces.

Many refugees fled the planet after the bombing to avoid the Sith forces.  Some ended up on Nar Shaadaa; others remained floating in space above the devastated planet.

At the end of the Jedi Civil War, Telos was selected for a trial restoration program to restore the ecology and society on Telos.  The success of the program was highly important, as it would determine if other affected worlds would receive similar types of programs.  Since the planet’s surface was undergoing restoration, Citadel Station was constructed in the orbit of the planet in order to house Telosian citizens.  The station was reliant upon the fuel from the Peragus Mining Facility to keep it in orbit above Telos.

To aid in the restoration process, the Telosian government asked Chodo Habat and his Ithorian herd to spearhead the project.  Ithorians were well known agriculturalists and ecological experts and were generally successful in their efforts.  Shielded zones were created and species from Dxun and Ithor were introduced.  The once acidic environment became stable enough for technicians to start working in the shielded zones.

The project was not without its setbacks.  Citadel Station quickly expanded, and the thin Telos Security Force was undermanned to police the entire station.  The Republic’s relation with Onderon was eroding, thus the expensive shipments of animals from Onderon to Telos were not coming in.  The Exchange managed to place themselves on Citadel Station, carrying out several criminal activities.

Czerka Corporation also established itself on Telos, seeking control of the restoration zones.  Czerka’s ‘aid’ to security often caused conflicts onboard Citadel Station and caused chaos for the Restoration Project.

Citadel Station was further devastated when the Peragus Mining Facility was destroyed, along with the station’s source of fuel.  Shortly after the destruction of Peragus, the Jedi Exile arrived on Telos.  She aided the Ithorians in collecting evidence against Czerka and the Exchange, forcing the dismantling of their illegal operations.  The Jedi Exile would also find a new source of fuel from Sleheyron by dealings with Vogga the Hutt.

In a final challenge to Telos during this era, Darth Nihilus brought his Sith fleet in an effort to consume the energies existing there.  He found no such Force energies, and was weakened by his hunger.  Forces led by the Jedi Exile upon Nihilus’ flagship, the Ravager, defeated Darth Nihilus and destroyed his ship.

The Restoration Project eventually succeeded and the planet once again became home to many.  The planet attracted large amounts of tourists from across the galaxy.  Scientific advances made on Telos made the planet a technological headquarters.  These technologies greatly encouraged business interests on the planet as well.

A notable event in Telos’ history occurred when Governor Crion wanted to establish new terms for a treaty that Telos had with a neighboring planet.  The Jedi Order was asked to be present during the negotiations to aid the process.  The Jedi Council sent Master Qui-Gon Jinn and Padawan Xanatos as representatives.  Xanatos was a native to Telos and the son of Crion.

Crion revealed to his son that the treaty negotiations were a cover for a more dastardly plot: to annex the planet for its minerals.  Xanatos agreed to help his father.  However, Qui-Gon Jinn discovered the plan and revealed it to the public.  Outraged, the citizens of Telos revolted against Crion.  In response, Crion and Xanatos hired an army to slaughter the uprisers.  Qui-Gon Jinn was forced to take Crion’s life to stop the massacre.  The event turned his Padawan, Xanatos, to the dark side.

Telos joined the Alliance to Restore the Republic after the rise of the Empire.  Telos became involved in Imperial action known as the Kwymar Suppressions, which were attacks on the sector’s planets in order to subdue them.
