Bastila Shan was born on the planet Talravin, daughter of Helena Shan and an unnamed hunter. Bastila enjoyed a very strong relationship with her father, but detested her mother for pushing her father into dangerous hunting expeditions. While still very young, Bastila was discovered to be Force Sensitive. Bastila was unwilling to leave her father behind, but Helena Shan encouraged that Bastila be given to the Jedi Order. She felt that her daughter would lead a better life with the Jedi rather than live in a family that lived from hunt to hunt. Bastila would join the Jedi Order and train to become an exceptional Jedi Sentinel. A strong talent was discovered with Bastila during her training. She had a very strong skill for Battle Meditation, a Force power that allowed her to inspire or instill fear into people. Her affinity for this power allowed her to affect entire armies at once. This power proved to be one of the Republic’s strongest assets during the Jedi Civil War. During the Mandalorian Wars, Bastila refused to join the Revanchist movement. She watched as many Jedi, including the Jedi Exile, joined Revan’s movement. When the same Jedi would return as Sith, Bastila stood as a champion for the Jedi Order. Travels with Revan Bastila led a Jedi strike team to assassinate Darth Revan aboard his flagship. The team successfully fought their way to the bridge, where Revan was waiting for them. Before the team could engage Revan, Malak betrayed Revan and fired upon Revan’s ship in a turbolaser attack. The initial impact severely wounded Revan. In a show of mercy, Bastila kept the kindle of life alive in Revan, creating a strong Force bond between the two. Bastila brought Revan to the Jedi Council, where they agreed to wipe Revan’s memories and give him a new identity, one loyal to the Republic. It was the Council’s hope that memories would slowly resurface and Bastila could guide Revan into finding the location of the Star Forge. Malak, believing Revan to be dead, took the throne of Dark Lord of the Sith. Malak feared Bastila for her Battle Meditation, and decided not to take any chances. His primary concern became the capture of Bastila. One year after the capture of Revan, Bastila was onboard the Endar Spire above Taris. A reprogrammed Revan was assigned to the crew shortly before the craft’s departure. Bastila’s located was discovered by Malak and the ship was attacked by the Sith. Bastila escaped via the ship’s escape pods, followed by Carth Onasi and Revan. Bastila’s escape pod landed in the dark Undercity of Taris, where a gang of swoop thugs known as the Black Vulkars captured her. Because her lightsaber was ‘misplaced’ during the crash, the Black Vulkars assumed she was a Republic Officer. The Black Vulkars decided to put her up as their share of the prize for the upcoming swoop race event. Revan and Carth had landed in the Upper City, and managed to strike a bargain with a rival swoop gang, the Hidden Beks, and enter the swoop race with a modified swoop. Revan won the race and freed Bastila from the Vulkars. Shortly after the rescue, the group was contacted by Canderous Ordo, a mercenary under Davik Kang’s hire. Canderous had a plan to steal a ship called the Ebon Hawk if Revan and his companions could steal the launch codes to bypass the Sith quarantine. Although Bastila had her reservations about the mercenary, she ultimately agreed to the plan. Revan infiltrated the Sith base with the aid of T3-M4 and the launch codes were successfully stolen.
