Soldier – Not a Warrior

Carth Onasi lived on Telos IV with his wife Morgana and his son, Dustil.  Carth started his soldiering career with the Telos planetary militia but eventually was recruited into the Republic Navy.

One of Carth’s first assignments was aboard the Republic flagship Courageous under then-Captain Saul Karath.  During his time on this assignment, he met a fugitive Jedi Padawan named Zayne Carrick that was hiding aboard the Republic flagship.  Carrick asked Carth to take him to talk to Saul Karath in order to warn him of an impending Mandalorian attack on Serroco.  When asked how he knew this, Carrick described the vision he had.

Carth brought Carrick to Saul, but the Captain was far more interested in the return of the fugitive Jedi rather than the warning of a supposed impending attack.  Carrick professed his innocence about his involvement in the Padawan Massacre of Taris.  Karath ordered Carth to contact the Revanchists and inform them of the Jedi’s capture, but Carth contacted a Jedi Master named Squint instead, who could supposedly prove the innocence of Carrick.  They could not contact the Jedi Master.

Taking matters into their own hands, Carth tricked the population into hiding by activating tornado alarms across several cities; evacuating citizens underground before the Mandalorians came.  The vision was proven true, as the Mandalorians attacked Serroco and killed thousands in the bombing.

Karath nonetheless imprisoned Carrick in a holding cell aboard the Courageous until the Revanchists came to claim him.  However, before anything could be done, Mandalorians attacked the battleship.  Outnumbered and outgunned, Karath ordered the evacuation of the ship.  A few men including Carth and Karath made their stand onboard the courageous.  Carth convinced Karath to allow Carrick to wield his lightsaber in the defense of the ship.  Karath reluctantly agreed, and freed Carrick.  The party escaped onto Carth’s ship, the Deadweight.

Carrick would later “escape” from Karath and run to Coruscant.  Carth was removed from bridge duty because of the loss. Later in his career, Carth would stumble into Carrick again, and again let him go.

Carth saw several battles during the Mandalorian War, including the Battle of Vanquo and the Battle of Serroco.  For his experience and bravery, Carth was promoted from helmsman to Lieutenant.
